The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) was founded in 1977 by Dr. Kiran Seth, Professor-Emeritus, IIT-Delhi who was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to the arts by the Government of India in 2009. SPIC MACAY is a non-government, non-profit movement which promotes art-form heritage such as Indian classical music, dance and others amongst youth across the world.
We are the European extension of the organization, officially registered in the Netherlands. We are mainly present in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy with more than 150 members across Europe. We conduct regular concerts, lecture-demonstrations and conceptual sessions on art and art appreciation (baithaks) between the chapters.
SPIC MACAY is a voluntary movement, taken forward by thousands of students. We celebrate Nishkaam Seva – the spirit of volunteerism, of giving selflessly without expectation – a value that is intrinsic to our culture and important to nurture in today’s world. You are always welcome to join the movement and experience the glory of art form heritage. Volunteers meet weekly to discuss their experiences while taking classical art forms to the world. If you would like to join SPIC MACAY and volunteer, you can do so here.
If you would like to financially support our movement to promote Indian culture across Europe, you are welcome to donate to our fundraiser. We appreciate donations as they help us take art heritage to more and more people. If you are interested in hosting a concert, performance or workshop related to an Indian classical art form, please get in touch with us.
