How Classical Arts Changed My Classroom

A Thrissur college teacher describes how SPIC MACAY events transformed student engagement with culture and literature.
As a literature teacher at a government college in Thrissur, I had long felt that something was missing from my students' cultural experience. When SPIC MACAY brought a Kuchipudi recital to our campus, I watched students who had been scrolling through their phones moments before sit forward, transfixed. In the weeks that followed, three of them came to my office to ask about the mythology depicted in the dance. Classical arts had sparked literary curiosity in a way no textbook had managed. I have since partnered with SPIC MACAY to co-curate four more events at our college.
